Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center Records

Abstract

The Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center Records (1971-2018) mainly consists of correspondence, event planning documents, financial records, subject files, and newspaper clippings created by or related to the Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center and the Nevada Governor’s Advisory Council on Education Relating to the Holocaust. Materials document educational conferences, remembrance events, and student field trips; curriculum planning, involvement with the Clark County School District, and educational materials about the Holocaust and other related historical events; and grant and fundraising activities. The collection also includes photographs and proclamations.

Abstract

Oral history interview with the Sperling Kronberg and Mack Holocaust Resource Center conducted by Barbara Tabach on September 4, 2014 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In this interview, Myra Berkovits, Susan Dubin, and Doug Unger discuss the history of the Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center and how it serves to provide holocaust educational materials to the Southern Nevada community. The interviewees discuss the Holocaust Resource Center's priority of education and awareness as well as the history of its funding.

Early Days poster consists of photographs of various people. Top left photo labeled: "February 1979 Edythe Katz (Yarchever) organizes new Holocaust Education Committee of JFLV [Jewish Federation of Las Vegas]" had a piece of paper stuck behind it with identification of people in photo: "Edythe _ _ Ralph Cadualla _ _ Karla _ Dwayne, Augi Orci, Frank Lamping" (handwriting is difficult to read, names may be misspelled). Additional people also identified in the other photographs include Lillian Kronberg, Carolyn Stewart, and Franklin Littel.

Description

Poster consists of photographs featuring various people. The middle photo (third from top) had a piece of paper stuck behind it it with identification of people in photo: "Logan Drola, Edith [Edythe], Deedagv, Teacher Mesquite" (handwriting is difficult to read, names be misspelled). Text printed on back of image reads: "Jews suffered persecution all over Nazi-occupied Europe. Persecutions and impositions on the Jews began immediately following Nazi military occupation of a conquered land in Europe. Their property was confiscated, and they were deprived of their subsistence by being denied the opportunity to work in their professions. They were press-ganged into forced labour, compelled to wear badges of shame. Their honour and that of their religion was dragged in the dust as synagogues were burnt, scared books desecrated, and public prayer banned. Individuals and groups were executed at the slightest pretence."
