Eric M. Cheese interviews University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) librarian Alice Cowles Brown at the UNLV Campus Library. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 10th, 1919, Brown moved to Henderson, Nevada in 1956. This interview offers an overview of life in Las Vegas and Henderson from 1956 to 1981. Brown also discusses road conditions, social structures, the educational system, support for intercollegiate sports and UNLV.

From the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas collection OH-01063. On February 26, 1980, Nancy Bright interviewed school teacher, Patricia Lappin (born April 14th, 1924 in Denver, Colorado) at Robert L. Taylor Elementary School in Henderson, Nevada. The interview covers Boulder City, Nevada around Hoover Dam. The two discuss the different gambling habits between Southern Nevada locals and Las Vegas tourists. During the latter half of the interview, the two speak at length about the impact of nuclear waste on Nevada. Lappin explains the unique issues that Southern Nevada faces as one of three states to accept nuclear waste.

Dwyer, Kay C.

Kay Dwyer was born August 30, 1934 to James and Eileen Crawford. Her father attained a job as an accountant with Basic Magnesium Incorporated in 1942. This moved the family to Henderson, Nevada, which was a brand new community in the early 1940s. In 1952, Dwyer graduated from Basic High School and then moved to Los Angeles, California to attend Pepperdine University for two years. She moved back to the Las Vegas, Nevada area and started a family with Stanly Hardy with whom she had three children.

Lemoine, Melissa (1970 March 22-)

Melissa Lemoine (1970- ) is a teacher at Doral Academy of Nevada and the coordinator of the NextGen program at Congregation Ner Tamid in Henderson, Nevada. She also teaches b’nai mitzvah, conversion, and Hebrew School classes at Ner Tamid. Born March 22, 1970, Lemoine arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1974 and has actively participated in the Jewish community since a young age.
