Abstract

Oral history interview with Wayne Tanaka conducted by Ayrton Yamaguchi, Vanessa Concepcion, Kristel Peralta, Cecilia Winchell, and Stefani Evans on March 12, 2021 for Reflections: The Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project.

Wayne shares his family's heritage and history as Japanese Hawaiians and discusses his father's internment during World War II. He shares his background growing up in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i and how he came to live in Las Vegas. Wayne discusses his career as an educator for the Clark County School District and talks about his life in Las Vegas with his wife and daughters.

Paul M. Lytle oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Paul M. Lytle conducted by Dennis McBride on March 08, 1996 for the Boulder City Library Oral History Project. In the interview, Lytle discusses his birth in Salt Lake City, Utah, his early life in Overton, Nevada, moving around the Southwest United States, and returning to Overton in the early 1930s to work with the Civilian Conservation Corps. Subjects Lytle also talks about in the interview include road and campsite construction at the Valley of Fire State Park, stories about associates and relatives, and being enlisted as a male nurse with the United States Army during World War II. Lastly, Lytle talks about the construction of an exhibit building at Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam) originally used as a headquarters for soldiers during World War II to protect the dam.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Lillian Morrison conducted by Dennis McBride on February 05 and 10, 1996 and July 29, 1996 for the Boulder City Library Oral History Project. Morrison opens her interview by discussing life in rural Iowa, her family, and their farm. She discusses how the farm operated in detail and what farming was like in the 1930s. Morrison describes moving to Boulder City, Nevada for employment opportunities. Morrison then describes the Six Companies, her husband's work there, and what living in Six Companies housing was like. Morrison then discusses working at Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam), race relations between African American and white workers, and discovering her own prejudices. She also talks about working for the National Park Service. Lastly, Morrison describes Boulder City, and important people living in the city.
