The Personal Papers and Professional Development Series dates from 1948 to 1973 and contains materials of Elmo C. Bruner, including some personal correspondence and information about a land claim held by Bruner near Red Rock Canyon in Southern Nevada. It also contains reference materials related to architecture and real estate appraisal practices. Other items document Bruner’s involvement with the Nevada State Board of Architects.

The Specifications Series (1947-1967) contains architectural specifications for buildings that Bruner’s firm designed or planned. Notable projects include additions at Las Vegas High School, the Westside School, and plans for the administration building at McCarran Air Terminal.

The Early Appraisal Series dates from 1937 to 1973 and contains appraisals of residential and commercial properties in Southern Nevada. The bulk of the properties are in Las Vegas, but there are also appraisals from North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Logandale, Nevada as well as other cities. The earliest appraisals predate Bruner’s arrival in the office and were completed by A.L. Worswick. They vary in levels of detail, with some offering only a quick sketch of the property, to others that offer details about the property including materials used inside and information about the surrounding neighborhood.

The Appraisals Series (1947-1996) consists of appraisals completed by Bruner’s firm. The bulk of the series dates between 1970 and 1978. Following Elmo C. Bruner’s death, his son Jerry took over as president of the business. The series also contains reference cards organized alphabetically by street name that include information about who requested the appraisal, who performed the appraisal, and fees charged. The cards are incomplete and do not include all the appraisals performed by the firm.

The Steffen Holding Corporation series consists of documents and materials from 1967 to 1982. United States Air Force office Dr. Robert Steffen formed the Holding Corporation with Elmo C. Bruner as president in the late 1960s. Bruner identified land for Steffen to purchase as investment property in Southern Nevada as well as along the Colorado River in San Bernardino County, California. Bruner earned a commission on profits. Following Elmo Bruner’s death, his son Jerry, became president of Steffen Holding. The corporation dissolved in the early 1980s.

The McCarran Airport Expansion Appraisals Series dates from 1975 and 1990 and contains materials related to the acquisition of land surrounding McCarran Airport in order to expand the airport. It includes appraisals of parcels of land as well as reviews of those appraisals completed by Jerry Bruner.
