Description

This series of photographs documents the historic water overflow at Hoover Dam as seen from the Arizona side of the dam. Taken in August of 1983, this overflow marked the first time the spillways were used during a flood. After initially being filled, the spillways were tested once in August of 1941.

Description

From the UNLV University Libraries Photographs of the Development of the Las Vegas Valley, Nevada (PH-00394). Part of the collection documents the entire 19 mile length of the north/south Eastern Avenue / Civic Center Drive alignment. This photograph was captured in the section of Eastern Avenue between Washington and Stewart Avenues.

Abstract

The Frank Gagliardi Music Manuscript Collection (approximately 1964-1974) contains musical arrangements of standard Frank Sinatra songs, printed or photocopied with annotations. Each part is in its own folder, and each song is numbered. Frank Gagliardi performed as percussionist in Antonio Morelli's orchestra for the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he played for Frank Sinatra and other notable entertainers during the 1960s and 1970s.

Oral history interview with Judy K. Cameron conducted by Evan Polili on April 19, 2004 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Cameron reflects upon her 30-year career as a teacher and administrator with the Clark County School District (CCSD) from the 1960s to the 1990s. She describes her regular job duties, challenges she faced, and training experiences that she feels were the most beneficial to her career. She also describes her experience as an assistant principal at Bonanza High School, and how the experience prepared her for principalship. She also offers her opinions of the contemporary standing of CCSD, and challenges from overcrowded classrooms.

Oral history interview with Larry K. Lytle conducted by Kenneth V. Higbee on April 26, 2004 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Lytle reflects upon his 30-year career as a teacher and administrator with Nevada’s Lincoln County School District (LCSD) from the 1970s to the 2000s. He describes the process by which he became a principal, and describes his approach to fostering a safe learning environment for students and staff. He also describes how his religious beliefs shaped his approach to leadership, and how his responsibilities changed over time as he simultaneously oversaw the elementary, middle, and high school in Alamo, Nevada. He provides his opinion on schooling challenges such as standardized testing, and offers suggestions for individuals interested in pursuing school administration.

He describes his approach to administration, his experience with school integration, and the importance of being present for students, parents, and teachers throughout the day. He also discusses what he believes makes a successful principal and school administrator, and describes the roles that teachers, assistant principals, and principals play in operating a school.

In this interview, Moore reflects upon his more than 30-year career as a teacher and administrator in both Nebraska and Nevada. He discusses the process by which he went from being a teacher to a principal in Nebraska, and eventually became a principal in Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD). He discusses his experience as principal of J. T. McWilliams Elementary School, challenges that he faced as an administrator, and his involvement with the Parent Teacher Association. He also offers suggestions for individuals interested in pursuing school administration, and comments on having a school named after him.

Oral history interview with Dr. Sylvia J. Springer conducted by Sharon Beatty and Bernard Chamberlain on July 23, 2001 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Dr. Springer reflects upon her 20 years as an administrator in Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD) from the 1980s to the time of the interview. She compares working with CCSD to working in Colorado, and describes the different priorities in each school district. She describes her personal approach to school administration, her regular responsibilities, and challenges that she faced as principal. She also comments on different management styles, and provides her opinion on management issues within CCSD.
