Abstract

Oral history interview with Dr. Robert Aalberts conducted by Claytee D. White on November 16, 2006 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. In this interview Aalberts speaks about how he was encouraged to come to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in 1991 by a friend who worked there. He described how when he first arrived there was no law school, and that he taught legal business and real estate courses. He became editor in chief of the Real Estate Law Journal in 1992. He also speaks about how he continues to teach, write, edit, do research in the new law library, and serve on various committees.

Jackie Abell (b. 1924) discusses her experiences growing up in Virginia City, Reno, and Overton, Nevada. She specifically discusses her experiences growing up on a ranch, railroading, above ground atomic testing, flooding, and wild animals.

Oral history interview with educator Beula Jane Adams (b. 1902) conducted by Maureen Conner on May 11, 1977 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Born in Smithfield, Nebraska, Adams relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1932. During the interview Adams explores and highlights the role of education in relation to the social development of Nevada. Adams discusses presidential visits, early above ground atomic tests, and her involvement in local politics.

The Jeff Van Ee Papers consist of the papers of environmentalist John Jeffrey Van Ee from 1974 to 2012 that document a portion of Van Ee’s environmental activity, notably his participation on environmental committees in the Las Vegas, Nevada area for water conservation and wildlife protection. The papers are comprised of correspondence, memoranda, reports, studies, newspaper clippings and meeting agendas and minutes.

Las Vegas Exchange Club Records

Abstract

The collection contains materials produced by the National Exchange Club, Las Vegas chapter (1956-1994). Materials consist of photographs, newspaper clippings, and programs documenting award ceremonies, dinners, socials, community service works, and charitable events. The collection features primary and secondary sources of events such as the 1963 Little Britches Rodeo, a children's rodeo, and the 1971 youth benefit featuring Dean Martin and his feature film, Something Big. The collection also contains issues of the Las Vegas chapter newsletters Bullsheet (1975-1994) and its former incarnation The Exchangite (1963-1964).

Harvey's Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino Collection

Abstract

Collection is comprised of materials, dating roughly 1830-1995, from Harvey's Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino Resort and the associated Harvey J. Fuller notes on casinos in Nevada. The bulk of the collection consists of paper inventories, Fuller's original notes, casino marketing materials, and casino and gambling merchandise. Also included are a number of artifacts and nineteenth and early twentieth century gambling machines.

Abstract

The Las Vegas Bugle Collection on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) History (1984-2002) consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, and ephemera chronicling issues of the LGBT communities in Nevada. In addition to records of the newspaper, the Las Vegas Bugle, the collection also contains documents pertaining to the founding of the Gay Community Service Center of Las Vegas, Nevada; Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG); local political campaigns; and photographs documenting LGBT life and culture in Las Vegas, Nevada.
