Abstract

Oral history interview with Leo Lewis conducted by Elizabeth Nelson Patrick on November 26, 1984 for the UNLV University Libraries Oral History Collection. In this interview, Lewis discusses the creation of the College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Lewis talks about Jerome Vallen becoming the dean of the College of Hotel Administration and the overall growth of UNLV. Lewis describes his career as a casino executive and later, in 1967, as a professor of management at UNLV.

She also talks about teaching in two Las Vegas high schools and a class for new teachers at UNLV.

He then talks about how he oversaw the development of the College of Engineering, helped create the UNLV Foundation, and appointed a number of people to administrative positions in the university.

She then discusses the construction of the new library, the law school, and dental school during her presidency, as well as facilitating more than 550 million dollars in gifts and pledges to the university.

In this interview Henry Jimenez discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in July of 1998, attending middle school and high school in Las Vegas, and attending University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also discusses being in many UNLV student organizations like student government and the Latino fraternity. He then discusses taking over the chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee for the UNLV student government.

Oral history interview with Dr. David Emerson conducted by Claytee D. White on December 21, 2005 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. In this interview Emerson discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1981 and teaching chemistry classes at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He talks about building up the engineering department at UNLV through distance education for students who needed credits in math, computer skills, or electrical engineering. He then talks about promoting the idea of a strong engineering school at UNLV, and then working to gain accreditation for civil, mechanical, electrical, and other areas of engineering.
