Description

Walter Bracken stands inside the Las Vegas Post Office, which had been moved to the interior of the First State Bank on Fremont Street in 1907. Bracken served as Las Vegas' postmaster from 1904-1914. Pigeon holes containing sorted mail surround the room. Desks, stools and office equipment, including a postage scale, are seen. Calendars hang from the wall and electric lights hang from the ceiling.

Description

The Delamar Lode newspaper printing office during the letterpress era. Cast metal sorts, used to construct words for the paper, are in the background at the right. Examples of articles are posted on the wall in the upper left corner. This photograph is attributed to the Fred Steen Collection in Stanley W. Paher's book, Nevada Ghost Towns & Mining Camps, page 300. Mr. Steen, who lived in Delamar around the time of this photograph, moved with his family to Tonopah where he later worked as a mining bookkeeper.

Description

An auction held May 15-16, 1905 to sell lots within Clark's Las Vegas Townsite. A group of men and women stand on and around a covered wooden platform outdoors. The auctioneer stands to the left of center at the front of the platform. The decision to auction lots within Clark's Las Vegas Townsite was not made until May 10, 1905. Auctioneer C.O. Whittemore was the president of the Las Vegas Land and Water Company.
