Description

U.S. Post Office building located on Main Street on UPRR tract. The post office had only general delivery service with post office boxes until December 1933, when local delivery began. This was the period of "hook and toss" when mail was tossed from passing train. If the hook was not hit exactly, the bag might be torn and the mail scattered. That often happened. Description

Dorothy and Dale Dorothy's first home, leased from 1945-1946. An old radio shop used to be in its place, hence the "Radio Doc" sign. Inscription with photo reads "First radio repair shop on North 4th St. 1946, now torn down... Our first ""home"" (leased) in Las Vegas 1945 to '46. We put the plate glass windows in and rented it to a woman who put a nice dress shop in it. We lived in the back part. We bought the hotel-motel in Whitney at that time and moved out there. Dale continued to repair radios in Whitney." [identified by Dorothy Dorothy 11-1-84]

Description

Governor Russell cutting the ribbon at Scotty's Castle Road. Inscription with photo reads: "A rope held on one side by a dummy burrow [sic] and on the other side by a dummy prospector. Very western and unique. The road from Highway 95 to Scotty's Castle. Pahrump road was 'bumped' off top priority for the Castle Road, 'because Pahrump didn't warrant a road,' one of the Nye County Commissioners said." The Adcock & Ronnow Department Store about 1925. The store building was located on the south side of Fremont Street between First & Second Streets. On the light pole is the sign B.P.O.E. 1948. designating the lodge rooms of the Las Vegas Elks, organized in Las Vegas on June 7, 1923, with the late Harley A. Harmon as the first Exalted Ruler. The second floor of the building was occupied by the Elks for many years. Physical object has an insert containing additional biographical information.
