Oral history interview with David L. Stevenson conducted by Charles Jackson on February 26, 1979 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Stevenson discusses his upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada. Stevenson discusses his early education and later working at chemical plants in Henderson, Nevada during his teens. Stevenson continues by recalling his career as a chemist at the Nevada Test Site, the purpose of the nuclear tests he was involved in, and the fallout that was carried across the country due to the testing. He also describes the growth of Las Vegas and its economy. Finally, Stevenson talks about being a real estate agent in Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Andrew and Debbie Levy conducted by Barbara Tabach on September 12, 2016 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. The Levy couple discusses the changes they saw in Las Vegas, Nevada, from when Andrew was a kid to the times they raised their own daughters, Sarah and Jenna. They also describe booms in the real estate market and growth in the artistic and cultural aspects of Las Vegas. Debbie provides a perspective of the growth of the local Jewish community.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Jack K. Leavitt conducted by Alick Dziabczenko on February 28, 1979 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Leavitt describes his life as a child living in early Las Vegas, Nevada during the Great Depression. Leavitt also describes seeing President Franklin D. Roosevelt's speech at Hoover (Boulder) Dam, the plane crash that resulted in Carole Lombard's death, and the construction of Nellis Air Force Base. The reaction of Las Vegas, Nevada to the outbreak of World War II is discussed, but information is limited, as Leavitt explains he was deployed in North Africa and Italy during the majority of that period. Finally, Leavitt talks about his career as a real estate broker in Las Vegas, and how real estate has evolved in the city.
