Abstract

Oral history interview with Todd Avery Lenahan conducted by Stefani Evans on November 29, 2016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Lenahan discusses his early life as a military child, and repeatedly relocating to several states. He talks about moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999, and founding his architecture firm, TAL Studio. Lenahan recalls doing the interior design for the home of Steve Wynn, designing show rooms in the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas, and making design accomodations for visually impaired individuals. Later, he discusses the issue of architecture firms outside of Las Vegas building communities in the city. Lastly, Lenahan talks about the future of Las Vegas infrastructure development.

The UNLV University Libraries Photographs of the Development of the Las Vegas Valley, Nevada (2016-2020) are comprised of digital photographs captured as part of the Special Collections and Archives Building Las Vegas project. Digital photographs shot in the Las Vegas Valley, Nevada, include color images of street scenes, neighborhoods, developments, land use, housing, flood control, parks, traffic patterns, and parts of the tourism corridor including casinos and hotels.

The Sheree Downs Las Vegas, Nevada Photographs are comprised of photographs Downs took between 1976 and 1995 during visits to Las Vegas, Nevada. The photographs document the evolution of hotel and casino architecture and signage on the Las Vegas Strip and in downtown Las Vegas. Also included are photographs of various tourist attractions in Las Vegas and souvenirs from casinos.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Dave Pugsley conducted by Stefani Evans and Claytee D. White on October 21, 2016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Pugsley discusses his early life in Salt Lake City, Utah and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1963. He talks about his father’s employment with Young Electric Sign Company (YESCO) and the Nevada Test Site. Pugsley recalls his initial interest in architecture, drawing a construction document for the Home Builders Association while in high school, and attending the University of Utah for a degree in architecture. Pugsley then talks about building planning for schools in Clark County, the process of designing a school, and the challenges that arise. Lastly, Pugsley discusses building planning for Lied Library and the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

There is also one album containing photographs of contemporary churches compiled by Whiteley between 1953 to 1958.

Abstract

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Lied Library Architectural Records (1965-2010) are comprised of drawings and documents created by the American architecture firms of Welles Pugsley Architects and Leo A Daly Architects, as well as their associated consultants, engineers, and other professional collaborators. This collection documents the design and construction of Lied Library at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The materials feature both hand-drawn and computer generated architectural drawings, ranging from preliminary sketches and artist renderings to schematic drawings and construction documents.

Abstract

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Solar Decathlon Records (2013-2021) are comprised of records documenting the University of Nevada, Las Vegas's participation in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Decathlon collegiate competition. The collection includes records created by the 2013, 2017, and 2020 UNLV teams (Team Las Vegas) in designing and building their respective competition entries: DesertSol, Sinatra Living, and Mojave Bloom. Records include competition application files, working project files, As-Built submittal packets, and promotional and marketing files for the competition. The majority of records in this collection represent the 2017 competition. Archived websites and social media accounts associated with Team Las Vegas and the Solar Decathlon competition are also included in the collection. The records document Team Las Vegas's efforts in designing and building energy efficient homes for the Solar Decathlon competition.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Physical Plant Planning and Development Committee Records (1958-1985) contain meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, and budgets from the UNLV Physical Plant Planning and Development Committee. There are also proposals, project descriptions, architectural floor plan drafts, and reports for the creation of various campus buildings including Tonopah Residence Complex, Performing Arts Center, Chemistry Building, Archie C. Grant Hall, and Maude Frazier Hall.
