UNLV University Libraries Collection on Las Vegas Show Costume Design

Abstract

The UNLV University Libraries Collection on Las Vegas Show Costume Design is comprised of work from several desginers who created costumes for various Las Vegas, Nevada shows. The designs are undated but appear to date from the 1940s to 1970s. The collection includes works from the following designers: Jean Devlyn, Anne Guertin, Larry Merritt, Ladd, Josephine Spinedi, Corrado Colabucci, and also includes unsigned designs from unknown artists. The collection also designs for Matt Gregory Productions. Most of the designs do not include show information.

Arnold Shaw Papers

Abstract

The Arnold Shaw papers (1927-2006) contain correspondence, newspaper articles, journal entries, promotional materials, and photographs. Shaw was a prolific writer and his papers also include articles, short stories, plays, and biographies written by him. In addition there are proofreader's notes, research material, and scratch copies for each of his fourteen books. The collection also contains papers from the various vocal groups and companies under contract with Shaw's music company, Mansion Music. Sheet music, some of which was written and produced by Shaw, assorted printed materials, and sound reels are also included.

Abstract

The Ralph Denton Legal Papers (1950-1993) consist of case files and legal briefs of civil rights attorney Ralph Denton. The cases largely involve civil rights issues and property claims in Las Vegas, Nevada. The files include cases representing individuals as well as companies such as Henderson Telephone Company, Lephrechaun Mining Company, and the Jockey Club Casino.

Homer Rissman Architectural Records

Abstract

The collection is comprised of architectural records (1947-2001) of American architect, Homer Rissman and the architectural firm, Rissman and Rissman Associates Ltd, a partnership of Homer Rissman and his brother Marshall. The collection includes 825 items from over 40 major projects and over 110 minor projects. The Rissmans' work represented in the collection focused on Las Vegas, Reno, and Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Los Angeles, Southern California, and Arizona, with Homer's early career design work in Chicago, Illinois. The materials feature hand-drawn architectural drawings, ranging from pencil and ink on tracing paper preliminary sketches to ink on Mylar (TM) construction documents, and a number of artist’s renderings, used for presentations and promotional materials. The drawings also contain work from a number of consultants, engineers, and other architects who collaborated on the development of the various projects. The collection includes architectural drawings for: hotels, casinos, integrated casino resorts, office towers, multi-family residential developments, and custom single-family homes.

The Terry Wilsey Papers on the Las Vegas, Nevada LGBT Community (1979-2002) are comprised of records from the Las Vegas Gay Switchboard, the Nevadans for Human Rights, and other LGBT community groups based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection contains newsletters, agendas and meeting minutes, informational pamphlets, as well as photographs, programs, and a VHS recording of local theatre productions.

Abstract

The Max DiJulio Music Scores (1950-1993) are comprised of handwritten and printed musical scores by composer Massimo "Max" DiJulio. Max Dijulio composed and arranged musical scores and conducted many concerts throughout the United States, and was particularly active in Denver, Colorado. In addition to the original scores and sheet music, there are also musical composition books with DiJulio's handwritten notes.

The Professional Black Women’s Alliance Records (1997-2003) consist of correspondence, photographs, and programs. Programs pertain to the organization’s annual Rose Awards, which celebrate black female role models from the Las Vegas, Nevada community. The collection also contains a large poster from the 1999 Rose Awards ceremony.
