Abstract

The Lamont Patterson Papers date from 1955 to 1996 and document the career of William “Lamont” Patterson (1916-1997), a jazz columnist for the Las Vegas Sun. The collection includes drafts of newspaper columns, professional correspondence, newsletters, newspaper clippings, photographs, radio program transcripts, concert programs, and ephemera relating to Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, and other performers. There is also a wooden plaque that was presented to Patterson from the Sands Hotel and Casino that includes a piece of the original Copa Room stage.

Abstract

The Robert Woodruff Papers (1927-2001) are comprised of materials documenting Woodruff’s career and family life in Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada, as well as his travels around the United States and abroad. Materials include newspaper clippings, photographic prints and transparencies, personal correspondence, and publications such as Las Vegas tourist brochures and pamphlets dating from the 1930s and 1940s. Visual materials include portraits, city scenes, and landscapes throughout Nevada and the United States, as well as some photographs of international travels.

Abstract

The KNPR: "Monday Night Jazz" Program Documentation and Recordings focus on jazz music played at the Four Queens Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1982 to 1997. The materials contain the reel-to-reel audio tapes from the radio programs that were taped at the Four Queens Hotel, including unedited master recordings and the edited versions played on air by Nevada National Public Radio (KNPR). Materials also include contracts, newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, and jazz scheduling information related to the program.

Abstract

The materials consist of monthly newsletters dated from September 1984 to August 1985 published by the National Association of Lesbians & Gays, a non-profit corporation based in Reno, Nevada. The newsletters in this collection are titled Gay Life, beginning with the inaugural issue in September 1984. The collecton includes one issue of the newsletter after its name was changed to Stonewall Voice! in August 1985.

New York-New York Hotel and Casino 9-11 Heroes Tribute Collection

Abstract

The New York-New York Hotel and Casino 9-11 Heroes Tribute Collection consists of materials from the "Heroes of 9-11" display that was at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada from 2001 to 2012. The materials primarily consist of more than 5,000 t-shirts left at the memorial by visitors to Las Vegas, mostly from fire departments and law enforcement agencies from around the United States. Visitors left shirts and other items at the memorial as a sign of respect for the men and women who died during the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C. on September 11, 2001. The collection also houses memorabilia and other items left at the memorial, including flags, hats, pins, buttons, flowers, and embroidered emblems and insignias. The materials also contain documentation of the memorial, including promotional and press materials, video recordings from the news media, photographs, and newspaper articles.

Abstract

The Harrah’s Entertainment Corporate Archives (dating from 1811 to 2004 with the bulk of the materials dating from 1940 to 2000) contain the promotional and corporate files of Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. and its predecessors, as well as Bill Harrah’s personal papers and card game collection. The materials were compiled and developed as a corporate archive by Harrah's Entertainment, Inc.’s Corporate Communications Department. The collection is primarily comprised of casino and employee periodicals, reports, manuals, promotional files, ephemera, and newspaper articles that document Bill Harrah’s casinos in Reno, Nevada and Lake Tahoe as well as Harrah’s Inc., Holiday Inns, Inc., Holiday Corporation, the Promus Companies, and Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. Also included are photographs that document the construction of Harrah’s properties, business operations, the people who worked and performed at Harrah’s properties, and Bill Harrah’s automobile collection. The collection also contains Bill Harrah’s collection of playing cards and card games. Also included are photographs of the Harrah family.
