With the mines and mills in Tonopah shut down, the railroad was losing money. The contraption above was constructed to carry passengers on the railroad wheels. The gas tank is visible on the roof of the car.

Note the windlass hoist, cranked by hand, and the pipe going down to the shaft to draw air into the hole for ventilation.

While a diver in the navy, Terrell served as photo double in the diving shots for Richard Arlen, the star of the movie, “Minesweeper”.
