Mercer, L. Paul, 1903-1972

Author L. (Leslie) Paul Mercer was an enthusiast of spinning, dyeing, and weaving in the Native American tradition. Born October 2, 1903, Mercer was a former resident of Boulder City, Nevada where he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 16 years. Mercer was a former president of The Nevada Handweavers and Spinners Guild. He lived with a Navajo family in Arizona for three years to learn techniques in spinning, dyeing, and loom operation.

Leslie Paul Mercer passed away on April 16, 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Roth, George Knox, 1907-1999

George Knox Roth (1907-1999) worked as a scientific research assistant to John Meier, a special assistant to Howard Hughes at Hughes-Nevada Operations. Together Roth and Meier organized and coordinated a study on the impact of nuclear testing and opposition to it in Nevada for Hughes. Roth was also involved with Meier when he engaged in the large-scale purchase of mining interests in Nevada on behalf of Hughes.

Moore, Bill, 1926-2012

Show producer and designer Bill Moore was born in Gateshead, England in 1926. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1950s in order to make theatrical productions. Moore, who was trained as a dancer, worked with his partner George Arnold to produce shows in Las Vegas, Reno, and Laughlin, Nevada, and in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He became known for flashy costumes and extravagant ice shows.

Mayes, Aaron, 1968-

Aaron Mayes has been a photographer in Southern Nevada since the early 1990s starting at the Henderson Home News, then spending nine years at the Las Vegas Sun. Prior to working with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Libraries Special Collections and Archives as the Curator of Visual Materials, Mayes photographed campus life, social events, athletics, and promotional images as part of UNLV Photo Services.
