Silver Peak, Nevada in the 1940s. There is an inscription on the back of the image. "Silver Peak was founded in the early 1860s and the area has produced over $17,500,000 in gold and silver. Today its major product is lithium, mined by the Foote Mineral company from the marsh east of town." There is a stamp October 1978.

Description

Arrival of a stagecoach from Stonewall Station, Hornsilver, Nevada, June 1908. There is an inscription on the back of the image. "Hornsilver, originally known as Lime Point, was settled when silver was discovered in the area in the 1860's. The name of the camp was changed to Hornsilver in 1908 when rich Hornsilver was found in the area. In the 1930's when gold became the major product of the area the name of the town was again changed, this time to Gold Point, the name it is known by today." There is a date stamp: May 1979.

Description

Tonopah, Nevada, May 1901. There is an inscription on the back of the image: "Tonopah's rich silver ledges were discovered in May of 1900 by Jim Butler." By 1910 Tonopah had become the largest city in Nevada. Its mines produced over $ 150,000,000 in silver and gold. Tonopah is a Shoshone Indian word meaning "Water Brush." There is a date stamp: Christmas 1979.

Freight team leaving Bullfrog, Nevada, December 1, 1905. There is an inscription on the back of the photo: "Headed for Goldfield, 65 miles to the north. Bullfrog was founded after the discovery of gold in the area in 1904. By 1907 Rhyolite, the tent camp at the left in the picture, had become the city of the district with a population of over 6000. The boom was over by the end of 1907." There is a date stamp: 1980.

Weepah, Nevada, March 1927. There is an inscription on the back of the image: "Shortly after the beginning of Nevada's last "Gold Rush." Rich gold ore was found in the area by Frank Horton Jr. and Leonard Traynor. Within a month over 16000 people had arrived at the new boom camp. The boom was soon over but the district eventually produced over $1,600,000." There is a date stamp: 1980.

Rawhide, Nevada, mid-1908. There is an inscription on the back of the image: "Rawhide was founded in late 1907 after high grade gold ore was found in the area. By mid-1908 the town had a population of over 7000. Due to shallow ore bodies only a few hundred people remained in the area by the end of 1909. Rawhide's mines produced over $ 1,500,000. January 1980."

Drilling contest, Tonopah, Nevada, July 4, 1903. There is an inscription on the back of the photo: "Residents watch a drilling contest on the corner of Main and Brougher. These contests, as well as races, tug-of-wars and baseball games were an important part of all early holiday celebrations." There is a date stamp: February 1980.

Palace Hotel, Goldfield, Nevada, September 14, 1905. There is an inscription on the back of the image: "Palace Hotel on the corner of Main and Crook, decorated for the Railroad Days celebration. Arrival of the Goldfield Railroad was a milestone in the camp's history. Later merged with the Tonopah Railroad to form the T. & G. R.R., it was the first of 4 railroads to serve Goldfield." There is a date stamp: February 1980.

Railroad days, Tonopah, Nevada, July 26, 1904. There is an inscription on the back of the image: "A three day carnival was held to celebrate the arrival of Tonopah's railroad. The celebration featured drilling contests and many other forms of entertainment. The Tonopah R.R. was later merged with the Goldfield R.R. to form the T. & G. R.R. which served Tonopah until 1947." There is a date stamp: 1982.
