Nevin joined the Virginia City, Nevada fire department when he was in high school. He was employed by the Nevada Division of Forestry for fire service from 1974 to 1998. He was trained as an EMT in 1976.

Tinney joined Mercy Ambulance in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1974. In 1976 he finished EMT training at Clark County Community College. In 1986 he finished an engineering degree and retired from EMS.

This is a coal team such [as] they drive in this country ha[uling] coal to the furnaces. From (?) 24. Twelve and fourteen is what they use hauling freight from the railroad to the inland camps. They are handled by one man and drove with a jerk line.
