Abstract

Oral history interview with Mike A. Foster conducted by Heather Christopherson on March 20, 2002 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Foster reflects upon his 25-year career as a teacher and administrator with Arizona’s Douglas Unified School District. He discusses the process by which he became an administrator, and describes training and experiences that he feels were most useful for his career. He describes his approach to education, his regular responsibilities, and challenges that he faced as a principal. He also provides his opinion on student ethics and discipline, school overcrowding, teacher evaluations, and dismissals.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Paul Pradia conducted by Claytee D. White on July 13, 2010 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Pradia discusses living in Cameron, Louisiana and the natural disasters that he experienced. Pradia recalls joining the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at Southern University (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) and later receiving a commission to the United States Army. He describes race-relations in the military during the early 1960s and his employment for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Lastly, Pradia discusses African American golfers and teaching golf professionally in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The David Coons Photograph Collection contains photographs and postcards depicting railroads in Nevada, California, and Utah from 1907 to 1956. The photographs depict trains and locomotives from the Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad, Union Pacific Railroad, San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake City Railroad, Bullfrog-Goldfield Railroad, Las Vegas & Tonopah Railroad, and Tonopah & Goldfield Railroad. The photographs also portray Arden, Nevada and the Arden Plaster Company Plant, Las Vegas High School after a fire, and early Fremont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada.
