Abstract

Oral history interviews with Lloyd George conducted by Claytee D. White on June 15 and 28, 2005 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In the first interview, George discusses being a lawyer in Las Vegas, Nevada and Chief Judge of the Nevada District Court, as well as having The Lloyd D. George United States Courthouse in Las Vegas named after him. In the second interview, he talks about growing up in Las Vegas, his education, favorite teachers, and early jobs as a schoolboy, his experiences in Wisconsin and Illinois as a Mormon missionary, and his college education at Brigham Young University. He continues discussing the history of Las Vegas, and his desire to pursue a career in law. He also discusses a great many notable individuals in the state.

Oral history interview with Keny Stewart conducted by Claytee D. White on January 16, 2010 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park neighborhood Oral History Project. Stewart discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1984 to work as an entertainer, and later his other careers as an elementary school teacher and as a library specialist. He also talks about buying a house in the John S. Park Neighborhood that was built in the 1940s and being a neighborhood association president.

Description

Dolly Kelepecz loves dance. Her entire life has been filled with the joy of movement. In this interview, Dolly begins with her life growing up in Covina, California and traveling with the Los Angeles Ballet Society as a young dancer. Eventually her career opportunities would have her traverse the globe as a dancer and as a circus entertainer. Her Las Vegas roots took hold in the mid-1970s when she was hired as a dancer in the Bluebells at a 19-year-old. She provides details of being a Las Vegas showgirl, crossing paths with Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal, working with Fluff LeCoque, and becoming a dancer in Stardust's Lido show. Today Dolly is an instructor at UNLV, an important part of her legacy is working with young people. She also explains how she was integral in bringing Pilates to the valley, which continues to be a thriving studio here.

Oral history interview with Len Zane conducted by David Emerson on May 10, 2007 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. Zane discusses coming to University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to take a one year position in the physics department. Zane also discusses his teaching career, overseeing the honors program through the transition to Honors College, and serving as dean of the college for 15 years.
