Abstract

This collection contains material that documents the career of technology educator Jerry Morlan (1938-2000), primarily in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bulk of the materials date between 1986-1996 and refer to Morlan's role in integrating technology into the classroom in the Clark County, Nevada School District. They include numerous letters of thanks and recommendation from schools throughout the county, as well as Morlan's professional writings and newspaper clippings related to his advocacy of vocational learning in the industrial arts. Also included in the collection is a group of photographs that visually document student projects Morlan directed during the 1980s, as well as a videocassette program from 1991 that offered an introduction to technology.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Eva Whaley conducted by Claytee D. White on May 13, 2013 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview, Eva Whaley discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada from rural Arkansas in the early 1960s. She also discusses getting secretly married in her teens, working for the Clark County School District at several schools, and then working at the Sprint Telephone company.

Description

Terri Goodsell interviews Carey Burke (b. 1936 in Columbus, Ohio) about his experience living in Nevada. Burke talks about moving to and living in Henderson for a period of time before moving to Las Vegas. Burke mentions a few memorable teachers from his schooling as well as the recreational activities he took part in, such as going to Lake Mead and joining a YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) camp. After mentioning the small odd jobs as a newspaper deliverer and altar boy for the Catholic Church, Burke talks about moving to Las Vegas in 1949 and his eventual schooling at St. Joseph’s Catholic School and Rancho High School. The interview then moves to a discussion on the above-ground atomic testing, including Burke’s and his sister’s experiences with the tests, and he then describes the Helldorado customs and celebrations in earlier days. The D. Kenneth Richardson Papers on the Hughes Aircraft Company (1950-2011) contains correspondence, speeches, photographs, Hughes Aircraft Company executive meeting notes, and various publications from Hughes Aircraft Company and other aeronautical companies. Also included are published papers written by Richardson and a productivity study published by the Hughes Aircraft Company.
