Abstract

The Harold Stocker Photographs depict Harold Stocker and his family from 1850 to 1980. Materials include photographs of Harold Stocker, his parents, his siblings, and his extended family. Materials also include photographs of Harold Stocker's business interests such as the Northern Club in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Nevada Silica Sand Company in Overton, Nevada, and the Chief Hotel Court on Fremont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection also contains photographs of Stocker participating in Republican Party events in Nevada.

Abstract

The Del Webb Corporation Photograph Collection (approximately 1957 to 1988) consists of black-and-white photographic prints, black-and-white oversize reprints, negatives, and color slides focusing on the Mint Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. Images depict the construction of a twenty-six story high-rise addition to the property, its grand opening and anniversary celebrations, the Mint 400 Off-Road race festivities, interior shots of the casino floor, restaurants and lounges, and a salon. Also included are exterior images of properties on Fremont Street considered to be competitors of the Mint, advertisements and billboards, and photographs of Del E. Webb and associates.

Abstract

Collection is comprised of correspondence, speeches, essays, meeting minutes, photographs, research materials, publications, press clippings, awards, and event programs (1941-2011) that document the life of Henry Schuster, and his work with his wife Anita. Materials are mainly related to the Holocaust and to Holocaust memory and survivor organizations (especially the Holocaust Survivor's Group of Southern Nevada, which the couple founded, and L’Œuvre de Secours aux Enfants). Genealogical information is also included, as well as records of Henry Schuster’s time in the U.S. Army and his studies at the Manhattan Technical Institute.

Abstract

The Richard B. Taylor Papers (1920-1993) document Richard Taylor's career and interests as a longtime Las Vegas, Nevada businessman and local historian, including his work as an executive at the Hacienda Hotel and Casino. The materials also include maps, development plans, and local publications for the Nevada communities of Laughlin and Mount Charleston, as well as publicity and promotional materials for these projects. As an amateur historian, Taylor also collected information on Las Vegas, Laughlin, and Mount Charleston.

Abstract

The Maurine and Fred Wilson and Dr. William S. Park Audiovisual Collection (approximately 1900s-1970s) consist of audiovisual material created by the Wilson and Park families. The materials depict the Park homes in Las Vegas, Nevada; Park and Wilson family members; outdoor activities and vacation trips to California, Colorado, and Mexico. The collection also documents early views of the Kiel Ranch in Las Vegas, Nevada, community parades and events, and early views of Las Vegas in the 1920s.

Abstract

The Las Vegas Art Museum Records (1952-2009) contain administrative files, press, marketing materials, and scrapbooks that document the history of the Las Vegas Art Museum (LVAM). Collection materials include exhibition files, annual reports, financial statements, board meeting agendas and minutes, event invitations, press releases, and newspaper and magazine clippings documenting the museum's activities. Materials include photographs from museum events as well as photographs of artwork displayed as part of visiting and permanent exhibitions. Audio and video recordings include interviews with museum staff and local news coverage of events. Also included are architectural floor plans for the Sahara West Library, which was used as a gallery space for LVAM. Digital files in this collection include recordings and presentation slides from LVAM lectures with curators and artists. Other digital files include photographs from LVAM events and workings files from LVAM staff.

Gary W. Royer Collection on Gaming

Abstract

The Gary W. Royer Collection on Gaming (dating from 1950 to 2009, with the bulk of the materials dating from 1970 to 1995) contains research files, legal files, reports, and manuals about gaming written and collected by Gary W. Royer. The collection includes research and regulatory files collected by Royer while he worked at the Nevada Gaming Control Board. These files primarily document the legislation and regulation of gaming in Nevada, but include information on other states in the US and some international locations. Regulatory files include statutes, codes, regulations, revenue reports, Nevada Gaming Control Board and Nevada Gaming Commission meeting minutes, and tribal-state gaming compacts. Also included are research files about casino, racetrack, and sports betting facilities that include data on organizations, monthly revenue reports, occupancy rates, management and operational control manuals, annual reports, policy and procedure manuals, and profile sheets collected for consulting purposes in Royer’s role as President of Casino Control Corporation (CCC), a private gaming consulting firm. Also included are subject and research files, vendor advertisements, catalogs, and reports; gaming industry publications; conference materials; audit guides; and a comprehensive collection of newspaper articles that document the US gaming industry in the second half of the twentieth century.
