Abstract

Aaron Williams Papers (1965-1981) consist of scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, certificates, newspaper clippings, reports, and programs. Many of the clippings and some of the correspondence contain references that give insight into the role of women in North Las Vegas and Clark County, Nevada during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The scrapbooks and newspaper clippings document Williams' career as well as issues he dealt with as councilman and commissioner. These issues include those related to community and infrastructure development, such as airports, sewage treatment plants, senior citizens, health, and urban planning as well as North Las Vegas and Clark county political activities during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The 2016 addition to the Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter Records contains agendas, minutes, resolutions, programs, newspaper clippings, and government bills and plans dating from 1987 to 2012. There are records from the Clark County Task Force, established in 2002, which studied the growth initiative and its impact on urban sprawl in Southern Nevada. Also included are board minutes, action items, and impact statements regarding the Nevada Test Site and the Yucca Mountain project. In addition, there is audiovisual material recording the various programs and interests of the Sierra Club.

Series 2: The Poker Hall of Fame Materials, 1976-1989

The Poker Hall of Fame was established in 1979 by the Binions to honor great poker players past and present. The first Hall of Fame inductees included five famous players and two contributors; every year thereafter one player was chosen for induction, many of them World Series regulars. Around 1986, Binion began hosting a championship game called the Poker Hall of Fame Classic in which the best players from diverse categories came together to play in celebration of the game.

The materials consist of press releases on the honorees, newspaper clippings and proceedings of the tournament, a few Hall of Fame certificates, and miscellaneous writings.

Abstract

This collection is comprised of the legislative papers of Nevada assemblyman Robert "Bob" Price from 1959 to 1988. The majority of the material concerns a legislative subcommittee appointed to investigate the pricing of automobile and housing insurance policies in Nevada. Documents include newspaper clippings, correspondence, minutes, testimony, press releases, and reports. Also included are legislative documents that relate to tax regulations, gaming regulations, and the Nevada Gaming Commission.

The Schoolmaster's Club of Las Vegas, Nevada Records (1955-1976) contain the club bylaws and fliers, newspaper clippings about the club's activities, and planning documents for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas site and the Maude Frazier building dedication. The collection focuses on the club's role in planning for and establishing the Southern Regional Division of the University of Nevada campus (now known as University of Nevada, Las Vegas).
