Stillings, Jamey

Photographer Jamey Stillings was born in 1955 and grew up in Oregon. Stillings is the principal photographer for Jamey Stillings Photography, Inc. He has a BA in Art from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon and an MFA in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. Stillings’ work spans fine art, documentary, and commissioned projects including The Bridge at Hoover Dam and The Evolution of Ivanpah Solar.

Eaton, Bruce M., 1904-1985

Bruce Eaton was born December 20, 1904 in Toronto, Kansas. His family moved to various places in the Midwest of the United States before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in June of 1932. He held jobs in truck driving, construction for the Hoover (Boulder) Dam, a superintendent for Clark County School District, and a congressional member of Boulder City, Nevada. Eaton passed away September of 1985.

Tilman, Lee R., 1913-2007

Lee R. Tilman was known for working on the Boulder (Hoover) Dam construction. He was born in Gooding, Idaho and had worked many jobs including a miner, ranch hand, and truck driver. He has given interviews regarding the dam's construction for many programs including PBS (Public Broadcasting Service), the History Channel, and the Discovery Channel.

Description

An image of the water-turned generator from Davis Dam. Located within Pyramid Canyon between Arizona and Nevada, Davis Dam was constructed on the Colorado River 67 miles downstream from Hoover Dam. Due to the Mexican Treaty of 1944, the United States was required to construct Davis Dam for regulation of water to be delivered to Mexico.

Description

Hand-drawn map of St. Thomas, Nevada (ca. 1914-1932) which was abandoned in 1933 due to the construction of Hoover Dam and is now covered by Lake Mead, as remembered by Merle Frehner (a former resident of St.Thomas). Buildings and residences on map are numbered and explained in a key. "Mormon plat assumed." Scale: 1 1/2 in. = 300 ft.
