Abstract

Oral history interviews with Lloyd George conducted by Claytee D. White on June 15 and 28, 2005 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In the first interview, George discusses being a lawyer in Las Vegas, Nevada and Chief Judge of the Nevada District Court, as well as having The Lloyd D. George United States Courthouse in Las Vegas named after him. In the second interview, he talks about growing up in Las Vegas, his education, favorite teachers, and early jobs as a schoolboy, his experiences in Wisconsin and Illinois as a Mormon missionary, and his college education at Brigham Young University. He continues discussing the history of Las Vegas, and his desire to pursue a career in law. He also discusses a great many notable individuals in the state.

Scope and Contents

Wilbur Clark's Las Vegas, Nevada business photographs depict Wilbur Clark's businesses in Las Vegas, including the Desert Inn and meetings with other prominent Nevada figures, from 1943 to 1975. The photographs include the celebration of the Desert Inn's first anniversary and Wilbur Clark's 48th birthday party held at the Desert Inn. The photographs also depict Clark meeting with numerous individuals, including politicians such as President Harry Truman, Tennessee Governor Frank Clement, Speaker of the House of Representatives Sam Rayburn, and former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt; entertainers such as Liberace and Elvis Presley; and Nevada governors Charles Russell and Vail Pittman. The photographs also document the CBS television show hosted at Wilbur and Toni Clark's house. The items described include photographic prints and negatives; items listed are photographic prints unless otherwise specified.

Abstract

Oral history interview with James Dunbar, Benny Figgins, and Pete George conducted by David G. Schwartz on July 19, 2016 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. The three interviewees describe their experiences working for Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada since its grand opening on August 06, 1966. George begins the interview by recalling his work in various positions including showroom custodian, showroom cocktail server, and banquet server. Figgins then describes his initial positions as a casino porter, convention porter, dishwasher, restaurant busser, and in 1972, his primary occupation as a dealer for table games. Dunbar explains working as a valet at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino while serving Caesars Palace executives during and after Caesars Palace's construction. The three interviewees then recall stories about notable casino executives and celebrities.
