Helen Jane Wiser Stewart was born in 1854 in Springfield, Illinois. When she was nine years old, the family moved to Nevada, and then to Sacramento, California in 1863. Helen was educated in Sacramento and in 1873 she married Archibald Stewart in Stockton, California.
The William S. Park Photograph Collection (approximately 1870-1960) consists of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives of the families of William S. Park, John S. Park, and John William Park, as well as photographs of the Thomas children, half-siblings of John William Park's daughter Virginia. The majority of the images show locations in Las Vegas, Nevada with a smaller number taken in Kentucky, Oklahoma, Colorado, and California. Also included are three photograph albums of William S. and John William Park as children.
The Southern Nevada Gem and Mineral Society Records (1950-2024) contain the records of the Clark County Gem Collectors, Las Vegas Gem Collectors, and the current Southern Nevada Gem and Mineral Society. The collection contains articles of incorporation, by-laws, membership directories, meeting minutes, correspondence, financial records, show paperwork, and award certificates. Also included are photographs of the organizations since the 1970s and digital scans of Gem Times and The Polished Slab newsletters.
The Leon Rockwell Photograph Collection (approximately 1850-1979) contains black-and-white photographic prints, negatives, and slides, as well as postcards and tintypes. The images portray the lives of the Rockwell family in southern Nevada, their travels throughout New York and the western United States, and their immediate and extended family members. Also included are images of the volunteer and early firefighters of Las Vegas, Nevada, the Rockwell's family cabin at Mount Charleston, Nevada, and the Rockwell family home in Las Vegas. Portions of the images are from the Rockwell family travels across Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and California and depict historic locations such as Cove Fort, Utah; Rhyolite, Nevada; and Pueblo Grande de Nevada.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Theta Theta Omega (AKA TTO) Chapter records (1965-2020) are comprised of organizational records, conference programs, digitized copies of the chapter's scrapbooks, and copies of Ivy Leaf, the organization’s national newsletter. The records include chapter and committee agendas and meeting minutes, Far Western Regional Conference reports, and fliers for events hosted by AKA TTO. Also included are archived web captures of AKA TTO's website and digital audio and video files for the chapter's oral history project interviewing Charter, Golden, and Silver members from 2019 to 2020.
The UNLV Libraries Collection of Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas Audiovisual Material consists of three 16mm reels of moving images that depict Las Vegas, Nevada from approximately 1925 to 1927. The first reel depicts members of the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas, which was formed in 1925. The remaining footage depicts views of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Bank of Southern Nevada, First State Bank, the San Pedro, the Los Angeles, & Salt Lake Depot and Freight House, and various shops on Fremont Street including Oakes Studio, T. M. Carroll Real Estate, J. C. Penney, Las Vegas Garage, and the Las Vegas Age print shop. The footage also shows various local families and desert landscapes. This collection has been fully digitized.
The Collection on the Las Vegas, Nevada Jewish Community spans from 1964 to 2006 and is comprised of scrapbooks, genealogies, ephemera, and other material produced by or for the community. The Hadassah scrapbooks date from 1964 through 1971 and contain invitations, photographs, and records of events and fundraising efforts. Material related to various congregations includes bulletins, fliers, correspondence (form letters), photographs, newspaper clippings, and recorded media. The Jewish Genealogy Society records include bulletins, newsletters, and meeting agendas. Also included is a family genealogy.
The Benedict Family Papers materials date from roughly 1905-1998 and are comprised of correspondence and letters (1969-1971) written to Howard Hughes by the public. The collection also contains correspondence written to Robert Maheu, former chief executive of Nevada operations for Howard Hughes. The collection also includes a variety of casino and gambling related product catalogs, gaming guides for Las Vegas casinos, and of research papers and reports primarily relating to sports betting and cheating.
The J. A. Tiberti Construction Records include material documenting construction work performed throughout Las Vegas, Nevada between 1950 and 2011 including bid packages, specifications, contracts, correspondence, company records, legal documents, and architectural plans.
