Documents in this series include press releases and press kits, which announce the tournament and key players; proceedings, including buy-in rosters, event schedules, participation lists, and handwritten notes that document the day-by-day results of play; player's brochures, with finished designs as well as raw materials for these brochures; newspaper and magazine clippings; and display ads in both draft and finished form. Most years do not contain all different types of materials, while some years document specialty events such as the women's tournament, live telecast, or sports charity events.

Description

Oral history interview with the Congregation Ner Tamid roundtable conducted by Barbara Tabach on September 21, 2016 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In this interview, Rabbi Sanford Akselrad and five members of the congregation discuss the founding of Congregation Ner Tamid, the first reform synagogue in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1974. They go into detail on how the synagogue was formed, the building-hopping they did until they built their current structure, and the funding it took to get to that point. The interviewees reveal a few donors, such as Morris Dalitz and Frank Sinatra, who helped to build their synagogue and school. The interview ends with meaningful stories and memories the members have relating to Congregation Ner Tamid.

The Las Vegas Rotary Club Records (1981-2022) contain award certificates, club directories and rosters, Las Vegas Rotary publications, commemorative material including a 20-foot by 34-foot velvet curtain. The collection also contains plastic and metal Rotary Club signs from across the United States and international locations, material from a Rotary Club in Africa, and a digital video segment made in 2013 about the history of the Las Vegas Rotary.

Abstract

The Dennis McBride LGBTQ Poster and Sign Collection (1977-2018) contains posters and signs created by the Las Vegas, Nevada Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) community, collected by historian Dennis McBride. These handmade and commercially printed signs cover events of particular interest to the Las Vegas, Nevada LGBTQ community, including social events, entertainment venues, political rallies, and Gay Pride events.

Janice Allen Papers

Abstract

The Janice Allen Papers are comprised of photographs, various publications, awards, a scrapbook, correspondence, memoranda, and newspaper clippings dating from 1953 to 2011 that document Janice Allen's philanthropic and political work in the state of Nevada. The materials document Allen's involvement with the Las Vegas Junior League, the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and other volunteer work. The collection also contains correspondence received by Allen from various United States politicians, most notably the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle.

Maria Moore oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Maria Moore conducted by Elsa Lopez on August 02, 2019 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Moore discusses her early life in Belize. She describes the the diversity of its citizens, being able to speak Belizean Creole, and compares differences between northern and southern Belize. Moore talks about the political and economic instability of Belize, immigrating to the United States in 1979, and attending California State University, Fullerton. Later, Moore discusses her interests in senior issues, obtaining an internship in hospice care, and her experiences volunteering at a nursing home. She talks about moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1994, and her employment with Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). Lastly, Moore describes the priorities for AARP and current events surrounding healthcare.

Randy Garcia oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Randy Garcia conducted by Laurents Bañuelos-Benitez on November 27, 2018 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Garcia discusses growing up in Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1950s and 1960s. He talks about attending Saint Anne’s Catholic School and Bishop Gorman High School, his experience as a Latino in Las Vegas, and facing discrimination because of his race. Garcia recalls graduating from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), studying business administration and accounting, and his first job in a stock brokerage firm. Later, Garcia discusses opening his own firm, the Investment Counsel Company, in 1987 and how he manages it. Lastly, Garcia talks about his involvement in the UNLV Foundation Board of Trustees, the Smith Center for the Performing Arts, the Latin Chamber of Commerce, and Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada.

The Mesquite Club Records (1911-2016) contain the organizational files of the Mesquite Club, the oldest women's service club in Las Vegas, Nevada. Materials include meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, committee reports, newsletters, scrapbooks, and photographic prints and negatives. The records document the club's administrative structure, community service projects, social events, and relationship with the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC).

Fraternal Order of Eagles, Las Vegas Chapter Records

Abstract

The Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.), Las Vegas Chapter Records (1906-2001) consist primarily of scrapbooks, attendance and meeting minute record books, correspondence, and an accounting ledger from F.O.E. Aerie #1213 and its associated Women’s Auxiliary and Retired Eagles Activities Club (REAC) located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The scrapbooks contain newspaper articles, photographs, memorandums, and state and national F.O.E. convention information. The collection also contains REAC secretary documents including the club charter, constitution, and bylaws. The F.O.E. is an international non-profit fraternal organization.

The collection contains materials produced by the National Exchange Club, Las Vegas chapter (1956-1994). Materials consist of photographs, newspaper clippings, and programs documenting award ceremonies, dinners, socials, community service works, and charitable events. The collection features primary and secondary sources of events such as the 1963 Little Britches Rodeo, a children's rodeo, and the 1971 youth benefit featuring Dean Martin and his feature film, Something Big. The collection also contains issues of the Las Vegas chapter newsletters Bullsheet (1975-1994) and its former incarnation The Exchangite (1963-1964).
