George Rhodine Papers

Abstract

The George Rhodine Papers (1969-1976) document local and national United States Bicentennial celebrations, including Clark County, Nevada Bicentennial activities. The collection was compiled by Rhodine, who worked as detective secretary with the Denver Police Department and later served as the Landmark Hotel's Personnel Director in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection contains news clippings, correspondence, publications and articles. The collection also includes his research files documenting juvenile delinquency, equal rights amendment issues, social issues, and community service.

Also included are images of the Rand Mine and the Wall Street Mine near Gresh's home in Nelson.

The majority of the materials correspond to the nations of the African continent, in particular South Africa and the apartheid-era Bantustans of Bophuthatswana, Ciskei, Transkei, and Venda. Other nations represented by this collection include the United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, Switzerland, and other countries in Europe and Asia.

Abstract

Boulder Dam: The Pictorial Record of Man's Conquest of the Colorado River (1937) is a public service announcement film produced by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation about the construction of the Hoover Dam in Boulder City, Nevada in the 1930s. Included in the collection is the original 35mm black-and-white film that was shown at the Boulder Theatre in Boulder City which was owned by donor Myron Jones's family from 1959 to 1970.
