Abstract

The United States Department of Energy Photograph Collection on the Nevada Test Site contains photographs prints and negatives of nuclear testing, detonations, buildings, and wildlife on the Nevada Test Site (NTS) from 1945 to 1982. The photographs primarily depict nuclear explosions at the NTS and other test sites. The photographs also include preparations for nuclear tests, facilities at the NTS, and wildlife that live on the NTS.

Abstract

The William Geagley Collection on Nuclear Safety contains government publications, memoranda, and pamphlets about counteracting nuclear contamination of food supplies from 1951 to 1960. The materials primarily document Geagley’s oversight of the development of food safety contingency plans for the Michigan Department of Agriculture. The materials also contain information relating to the Nevada Test Site’s plans for Operation Plumbbob, atmospheric and underground nuclear tests held in 1957 in Nevada.

On March 1, 1979, Lance Cooper interviewed Suzette Cox (b. 1945 in San Diego, California) about her experiences living in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cox talks briefly about her career history in working at the Las Vegas Sun, as a deputy sheriff, and eventually as a secretary at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She also talks about the various parts of Las Vegas in which she has lived since moving to the city in 1953. The two also discuss the Las Vegas Strip, gambling, recreational activities, atomic testing, the Mormon Fort, and how Las Vegas has changed over the years.
