Abstract
Oral history interview with Melvin Green conducted by Stefani Evans and Claytee D. White on September 23, 2016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Green discusses his upbringing in Louisiana and growing up in a family of farmers. He recalls moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1983, working for Nevada Partners, and his involvement in the redevelopment of the Westside School. Green talks about his architect firm, KME Architects, and lists projects his company has worked on in Las Vegas. Lastly, Green describes presenting new designs to community members and partnering with church leaders to build community housing.

The MGM Grand Hotel was burned by a fire in 1980, rebuilt in 1981, and sold to Bally's Corporation to become Bally's Las Vegas in 1985.

The massive MGM Grand Hotel, a $120 million resort complex, is the entertainment capital of Las Vegas, where it dominates the skyline and activites of the exciting Strip. Included in its facilities are two major showrooms, a lively lounge, Jai Alai fronton, movie theatre, six restaurants and a shoppng arcade." The MGM Grand Hotel was burned by a fire in 1980, rebuilt in 1981, and sold to Bally's Corporation to become Bally's Las Vegas in 1985.

The typed caption on the photograph reads: "Picturesque and widely known Box Canyon, now lighted and improved with lights, entrance paths, natural fireplaces, etc. Recently named 'Cathedral Canyon' because of the many similarities to cathedral architecture. Located 150' from entrance to famous Hidden Hills Ranch cottages." Roland Wiley is on the left in the white shirt; Mr. Elderbrook, from Palm Springs, is in the foreground in the white hat.
