Description

During Ivanpah Solar's grand opening ceremonies, the project's partners' logos were created with the heliostats to be read from the observation level of Unit 1 power tower. They then recreated the logos so that they would read correctly from the air. These photos were the only aerial images taken over the project site on 13 February 2014.

Photographer's note: "Aerial photograph of top of power tower at Crescent Dunes Solar, a 110MW tower style concentrated solar power plant with molten salt storage near Tonopah, Nevada, USA. On this day, the system was being tested by heating molten salt at the top of the glowing tower to 1050°F (566°C), then using the resultant thermal energy to drive steam turbines, which in turn sent electrical power to the Nevada grid.."
