Abstract

Oral history interview with Otto Ravenholt conducted by Kenneth "K. J." Evans on June 16, 1999 for the Las Vegas Review-Journal First 100 Oral History Project. In the interview, Ravenholt discusses his family's history, his marriage, his education, and his service in the United States Army. Ravenholt talks about arriving in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1963, working as Clark County, Nevada's first Chief Health Officer, and establishing a health center at 2nd Street and Stewart Street. He recalls administrative and legislative issues during the health center's construction, memories of World War II and the Korean War, and his investigative work as a coroner.

Oral history interview with Robert N. Broadbent conducted by Connie Lyons on September 23, 1972 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. During the interview Broadbent discusses education, politics, religion, entertainment, the dedication of Hoover Dam, and the various social clubs of which he is a member of. Broadbent also discusses Six Companies, housing in Boulder City, Nevada, the Las Vegas Strip, Railroad Pass, the Union Pacific Railroad, and the above ground atomic bomb testing in Nevada.

Mike Montano oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Mike Montano conducted by Lisa Gioia-Acres on September 19, 2008 for the All That Jazz Oral History Project. Montano begins by discussing his mother and father, who met in Hawaii when his father immigrated there from the Philippines, and later moved to Stockton, California during the late 1930s after Montano was born. He describes racial prejudice he has faced as an Asian American, how he developed interest in playing the piano as a child, and his siblings. Montano continues, detailing how he started playing jazz while attending the College of the Pacific and the musicians he played with. He describes first going to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1960 and returning throughout the 1960s as a member of various touring jazz bands. He talks about the other places he performed around the world and the celebrities and prominent musicians he has met. Montano concludes by reflecting on his career as a musician and his life in Las Vegas after moving there permanently in 1974.

Oral history interview with Paulette Morris conducted by Claytee White on January 06, 2009 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Morris opens her interview by discussing traveling around the world as a child due to her father's career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Morris then talks about the school system in Morocco and how it gave her the opportunity to study ballet. She describes her audition process with the Paris, France based revue, the Folies Bergere. Morris discusses the Bluebell Girls, Margaret Kelly ("Madame Bluebell"), costumes, and the show schedule. Morris then recalls dancing in the Lido show at the Stardust Hotel and Casino, and her experiences in Las Vegas, Nevada during the 1960s. She ends the interview discussing her return to school, her job in retail, and her final thoughts on her experiences with the Bluebell Girls.
