Oral history interview with Judith Lee Johnson Jones conducted by Claytee D. White on February 22, 2007 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Johnson Jones discusses winning a contest that allowed her to be a showgirl at the Sands Hotel and Casino when she was seventeen, receiving a college degree in Houston, Texas, and performing in the Elvis movie “Viva Las Vegas.” She also talks about her twenty-nine-year career in education.

Oral history interview with Anne Davis Mulford and Strutt Hurley conducted by Dennis McBride on June 7, 2002 and July 22, 2002 for the Las Vegas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Archives Oral History Project. Mulford discusses her early life in the Northeast, including her experiences with a lesbian mother and how that affected her early life. She discusses her coming out and her move to Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1990s. Anne recalls her involvement in the LGBTQIA+ community in Las Vegas, including her work on the Las Vegas Pride parade and the beginnings of the LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada. Finally, she talks about her work building AFAN, the Aid for AIDS of Nevada.

Abstract

Oral history interview with James Perkins conducted by Janel Houldsworth on June 22, 2005 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Perkins reflects upon his career as a teacher and administrator with Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD). He describes the process by which he chose to pursue special education, and eventually became a teacher and administrator at several elementary and special education schools throughout the school district. He discusses issues such as student and staff diversity, and his interactions with Native American students through the development of Ute V. Perkins Elementary School in Moapa, Nevada. He also describes his approach to school administration, and his daily routine as a principal.

Oral history interview with Pamela DiMiceli, Leslie Fox-Priest, Jenna Fox, Steven Fox, and Jeffrey Fox conducted by Claytee D. White on November 22, 2019 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, siblings Pamela, Leslie, Steven, and Jeffrey talk about their family background and upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pamela and Jeffrey remember attending Las Vegas High School, going to the movies at the Fremont, El Portal, and the Fox theaters, and school integration. Steven describes his childhood in Las Vegas and his educational experience. Jenna is the daughter of Leslie and also participates in the interview.
