Oral history interview with Christine Barrett conducted by Claytee D. White on March 19, 2021 for African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project.

Christine Barrett talks of her educational background and previous employment history that led her from California to Massachusetts, Virginia, and California again before her final move to Las Vegas. She has worked in management positions related to Las Vegas Valley water use for 38 years, and in the past decade has begun working for the Clark County School District in various professional capacities.

Oral history interview with Dwight (D. A.) Anthony Downey conducted by Claytee D. White on February 05, 2016 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview, Downey discusses his early life in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He describes the African American owned businesses on the Black Wall Street, and the community where he grew up in. Downey recalls moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1977, being involved in the entertainment industry, and his employment with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the food service industry.

Oral history interview with Donald and Kathleen Klinkner conducted by Claytee D. White on May 07, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods--an Oral History Project of Ward 1. In this interview, Don Klinkner discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, going to Las Vegas High School, being a part of the Mint Julep social club, and his career in the casino industry. Kathy discusses growing up in the hippie movement, moving to Las Vegas, becoming the first female credit manager in the entire Caesars organization, and marrying Don Klinkner.

Oral history interview with Nancy Houssels conducted by Claytee D. White on March 19, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods--an Oral History Project of Ward 1. Houssels discusses going to school at Berkley University and the University of California Los Angeles, and then migrating to Las Vegas, Nevada. She discusses dancing at the Dunes Hotel and later at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino where she met her husband. She then discusses her part in starting the Nevada Dance Theatre and being a “prime mover” in the Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

Abstract

Oral history interview with John Perazzo conducted by Claytee D. White on June 16, 2016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Perazzo discusses his upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada. He talks about attending Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California to obtain a degree mathematics and computer science. Perazzo then recalls his father's work in architecture and his father's employment at the Nevada Test Site. Later, Perazzo discusses becoming a card dealer at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino and describes the challenges in working at casinos. Lastly, Perazzo talks about the development of Fremont Street.
