Galatz, Elaine B.

Elaine Galatz was born September 1, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and studied English at the University of Wisconsin. In 1961, she married Neil Galatz and moved to Arizona. After attending the University of Arizona and Arizona State University for graduate studies and her teaching certificate, Galatz moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and taught at J.E. Manch Elementary. When her husband opened his own law firm in the mid-1960s, she served as the office manager and bookkeeper.

Cahlan, John Francis, 1902-1987

John Francis Cahlan, a native Nevadan, worked as the editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He also worked to support education and preserve Nevada history, advocating for the establishment of the Nevada State Archives. He was born in Reno, Nevada in 1902, and attended the University of Nevada, earning a degree in journalism in 1926, and worked for the Nevada State Journal.

Esther Toporek Finder was the president and founder of Generations of the Shoah – Nevada (GS-N), an organization based in Las Vegas, Nevada for the children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors. GS-N's mission is to support local Holocaust survivors and educate community members about the Holocaust and its legacy.

Aizley, Sari, 1934-2017

Sari Aizley was born January 10, 1934 in Newark, New Jersey and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she was in a Jewish minority. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada as a single mother who worked for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where she also earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees. Aizley worked for the Jewish Family Services, American Civil Liberties Union, sold advertising for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and starting the memorable CLASS! Newspaper with her son, David Phillips, and her husband Paul. For 16 years, CLASS!
