Long, Walter V. (Walter Varah), 1899-1986

Walter Varah Long (1899-1986) was an educator in Southern Nevada for 48 years and was active in local, state, and national efforts to improve education. Long was born in Pioche, Lincoln County, Nevada on August 21, 1899. He was raised in the farming community of Panaca, Nevada and graduated from Lincoln County High School. After teaching in Panaca for two years, he furthered his education, ultimately earning his Bachelor of Science degree in School Administration from the University of Utah.

Irene Sprague Black was born on November 09, 1919 in Delta, Utah to Orson Marion Sprague and Bertha Elizabeth Sampson. Black moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1924. Black worked as a haridresser in Las Vegas. Black passed way on March 05, 2005.

Brian Block was born in Chicago on August 10, 1945 to Jerry and Jeanne Block. Block lived in California and Las Vegas, Nevada. Block attended Fullerton Junior College and then the Art Center College of Design and received his two year degree in Architecture. He worked as a contractor.

Monroe Williams was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1940 and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1943. He was a soldier in the Navy, one of the first black fire fighters in Las Vegas, a proud member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples, and operated a real estate company and a property management company.
