Oral history interview with Lindsay Wenger conducted by Barbara Tabach on March 13, 2018 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, Lindsay Wenger discusses her move to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2013 for her residency at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC). She talks about her experience on the night of the October 1, 2017 mass shooting and recalls a few specific patients she treated throughout the night and into the morning. After discussing the events at the hospital, she explains how she has been emotionally affected and how her view of Las Vegas as a community has changed.

Oral history interview with Paul Chestovich conducted by Barbara Tabach on March 7, 2018 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, doctor Paul Chestovich describes the events on the night of the October 1, 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada at the University Medical Center (UMC). He discusses how he heard about the shooting and rushed to UMC to help the patients as a trauma surgeon. Doctor Chestovich shares some specific cases from that night and his emotional reaction to the shooting.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Valda and Esper Esau conducted by Su Kim Chung on February 20, 2014 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, the Espers discuss their careers in entertainment. Valda Esper begins by describing her upbringing in Australia, learning to dance, and later going on to perform in various productions in Paris, France, as well as other European countries, before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1958 to perform as a showgirl at the Stardust Resort and Casino. Esper Esau then describes his personal history, how he developed stage hand experience, moving to Las Vegas in 1954, and working shows with prominent performers, such as Liberace, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin. Esper continues, describing his specific job duties and why he transferred to the Stardust from the Sands Hotel & Casino. Valda discusses the life of a Las Vegas showgirl, the amount of work the position required, and how they were required to present themselves in public. The Espers recall how they met, life in Las Vegas during the 1960s, and opening a bed and breakfast after retiring from show business.

Oral history interviews of Westside School alumni conducted by Claytee D. White on March 20, March 29, April 27, and June 22, 2010 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project.

Alumni of the Historic Westside School of Las Vegas, also known as the Las Vegas Grammar School, gathered in 2010 to celebrate the official registration of the school as a historic site in the city. These alumni discussed their education, what they remember of the school, their teachers, and what life was like in Las Vegas at that time.

The individuals interviewed are: Jackie Y. Brantley, Eugene Buford, Margaret (Addison) Coleman, Regina Cone, Shirley Edmond, Frank Harris, Otis Harris, Tisha Harris, Willie B. (Jones) Jackson, Jerry Neal, Sadie Marie Prentiss, Calvin Wallace Jr., Nathaniel Whaley, and Cleophis Williams.

Oral history interview with Fernando Rocha conducted by Nathalie Martinez and Barbara Tabach on November 13, 2019 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Fernando Rocha recalls growing up in Santa Ana, California and in Sunrise Manor in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fernando Rocha is a Mexican professional who is committed to giving back to the Latinx youth of Las Vegas. He talks about his responsibility as a translator in his family with his siblings. He credits his academic and professional success to the Clark County School District and programs such as GEAR UP and Upward Bound. After studying at Hofstra University, he came back to Las Vegas to work with Wells Fargo and is an active community member as co-founder of the Nevada Youth Coalition and work through the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) and Nevada Promise Mentor at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN).
