Marquez, Emilia
In 1971, Emilia Marquez was born in Virginia to her Uruguayan immigrant parents, Alicia and Carlos. When the family returned to Uruguay in 1982, she experienced being an outsider in her parents’ home country. As she describes it: when in Uruguay she is Uruguayan; when in the U.S., she is an American citizen. Over the course of her life, she has proven to be an adept navigator of language and cultures. In 1990, she and Juan Carlos Mussio married. They have three daughters, Ashley, Emily and Jessica. The family moved to Las Vegas in 2001.

Seifullah, Fateen, 1968-
Fateen Seifullah was born in Compton, CA in 1968 when that area was run by gangs. The family moved to Las Vegas where his gang affiliation began. Seifullah explains the gang culture, how their operations work, drugs, how using the product is to be avoided, prison, and street life. Now, Seifullah is an Iman, leader of a mosque in the Historic Westside. Since 2010, he has led an initiative to develop a "Muslim Village." HIs goal is to drive gangs and drug houses out of the community, purchase surrounding properties, and transform the area.

Frost, Florence, 1929-
Florence Frost was born March 24, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York. She married Robert L. Frost in 1949 and had three daughters. Not long after she moved from New York City to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1960, she joined Temple Beth Sholom, where she worked as an executive secretary for two years. Frost worked in the banking industry for many years before she earned her broker's license in 1974. That same year, she opened her own real estate office in Las Vegas, Rancho Rodeo Realty, which she owned until 2004.

Rojas, Joseph A., 1933-2009
Dr. Joseph Rojas, born December 09, 1933 in Alexandria, Louisiana, was the son of Joseph Edward and Carroll Rojas. He graduated high school at age 16 and entered Loyola University of the South. Two years later, he was accepted at Louisiana State University School of Medicine, graduating with a medical degree in 1957. He interned at Charity Hospital and then completed his Obstetrics- Gynecology (OB-GYN) residency at Tulane University.

Brown, Lori Lipman, 1958-
Former Nevada State Senator Lori Lipman Brown works as a lawyer, educator, civil rights advocate, and secular activist in the United States. Born in New York on June 17, 1958, Brown graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and then received her Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law in 1983. After working as an attorney, Brown returned to UNLV and took courses to get her teaching license and went to work as a high school teacher.

papers. Ralph Roske was a professor of history at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
