Description

The women include Helen Bunker, Gladys Boggs, and Zatta McDonald (per the handwritten description on the image), as well as Olive Lake, Norma Brockman, and Maria. Note: Image is from a family photo album that was loaned to UNLV Libraries Special Collections and returned to the family on July 17, 1984.

Description

A picture of Wovoka, also known as Jack Wilson, was the Paiute messiah from Mason Valley and the originator of the Ghost Dance religion. The Ghost Dance is incorporated into numerous American Indian belief systems and is said to unite the living spirits with the deceased. Written on the photo: "Northern Paiute - 1.
