Abstract

Oral history interview with Herbert Wells conducted by Patricia van Betten February 24, 2005 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Wells discusses his personal history and being drafted to the United States military in 1945. He describes military life, his education in mining, and his career mining in Blue Diamond, Nevada. Wells discusses managing shifts for the miners that lived in the Blue Diamond village and describes the infrastructure at the village. Later, Wells talks about his employment at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as a civil and environmental engineer professor.

George then discusses Las Vegas, the Helldorado Parades, atomic bomb testing, and her family picnics at Mount Charleston.

Oral history interview with Esther Langston conducted by Claytee D. White on February 22, 2005 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. In this interview, Langston provides an overview of her early life and career in social work. She describes how the women in her family are positive and empowering role models. Langston moves on to explain how she become a social worker over a period of many years. She states that a job experience that helped her gain the qualifications of a social worker was working as an office manager at the Nevada Test Site. She also mentions how she has had to work with conflicts such as racial inequalities.

Oral history interview with Bob Colucci conducted by David Schwartz on April 29, 2005 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Colucci discusses his early life in Brooklyn, New York and first job in the newspaper delivery business, his military career, and his return to work for the New York Herald Tribune newspaper. He continues talking about the newspaper business, his advancement, and his work with the union. He then begins talking about his interest in boxing and how this interest led to his involvement in the sport as a trainer and manager.

Scope and Contents

The audiovisual series of the MGM Mirage Corporation Records dates from 1982 to 2005. The series contains videotapes and audiocassettes that contain B-roll of MGM Mirage properties, press conferences from sporting events, interviews with Steve Wynn, press announcements, and training videos. This series consists of master tapes and also contains videotapes with programs that aired on local and national networks. Format types represented include VHS, U-matic, Betacam, Betacam SP, Betamax and audiocassettes.

Isola Olsen interviews school teacher-principal Russell H. Allen (b. 1914) at his place of residence in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Born in Mesa, Arizona, Allen relocated to Nevada in 1953. During the interview Allen discusses home life, living and working in Alamo, Nevada, teaching, and changes of education.
