Abstract

Oral history interview with D. Taylor conducted by Claytee White on July 25, 2014 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Taylor recalls the 1984 Culinary Workers Union Local 226 citywide strike for improved health coverage for employees. He also talks about the history of the labor union, its leadership, and the union representative structure giving a larger voice to the racially diverse workforce in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In this interview Kirk Kerkorian discusses Howard Hughes and Jerry Williams and how they were two men who he respected and learned from. He also talks about how Jerry Williams introduced him to Las Vegas, Nevada. He then discusses how he was ecstatic when he saw Las Vegas for the first time and how he helped build Bally's, The International, and the MGM Grand Hotel.

In this interview, Lynn discusses his background, education in Las Vegas, Nevada, his parents and siblings, his military career, and his professional and work training that prepared him for his first position as a groundskeeper at UNLV in 1986. He continues to discuss his career at UNLV as he rose from groundskeeper to Ground Facilities Supervisor, mentioning various project highlights, construction projects, and his supervisory style that helped create a close-working team.

In this interview Raymond Rawson discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of ten in 1950. He also discusses his educational background, including the fact that he was a member of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' first graduating class. He also talks about growing up in Las Vegas, his professional accomplishments, advocating for the creation of the UNLV School of Dental Medicine, and about being a community leader.

Oral history interview with Henrietta Pace conducted by Claytee D. White on June 15, 1996 as part of the UNLV University Libraries Oral History Collection. In this interview Pace first talks about growing up on a sharecropping farm in Arkansas, the type of work she performed as a child, the impact on education, her family and community, and the way the community celebrated holidays. She briefly discusses her marriage and then explains how and why she chose to move to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1961. She talks about working as a housekeeper at a number of Strip hotels, about discrimination in employment, living in the Westside, and becoming involved with the union.
