Description given with photograph: "Hughes' streamlined Stratoliner groomed for record dash. Glendale, Calif.-- With customary secrecy, Howard Hughes, millionaire oilman and speed-flier, is reported to be grooming his new $250,000, four-motored, streamlined Stratoliner(above) for another record-breaking transcontinental flight from Glendale, Calif., to New York. Hughes made the headlines some time ago when he broke the transcontinental record in a smaller ship. The new craft is pictured just before a trial flight at Glendale."
The Young Audiences New York, Nevada Humanities Photograph Collection (approximately 1970-1979) contains black-and-white photographic prints, slides, and negatives of the Las Vegas, Nevada chapter of the Young Audiences New York arts organization. Images include scenes of concerts, workshops, and chapter outings at public parks. There are images of specific bands within the chapter such as the Brass Quintet, Vocal Quartet, and Woodwind Quintet. Lastly, there are images of celebratory banquets honoring members of the Las Vegas chapter.

Transcribed from attached press release: "HUGHES FLIES DUPLICATE OF CRASH PLANE CULVER CITY, Calif., April 5 -- Howard Hughes, famed flier-industrialist, today test-piloted the plane pictured here, a duplicate of the XF-11 photo-reconnaissance ship which he nearly lost his life in an accident last July 7. He designed and built the plane for the Army Air forces in conjunction with the Air Materiel Command engineers. He has recovered from the injuries sustained last year when the freak propeller trouble dashed the original XF-11 to earth. As usual, he today took personal responsibility for the first test flight of the new plane." The actual flying date is April 4, 1947.
