The black and white view of Hiram "Tommy" Thurlow and the Lockheed 14 aircraft in New York, New York. Typed on a piece of paper attached to the image: "Readying Hughes' plane for Paris flight. New York City-- Mechanics hastened to put Howard Hughes' Lockheed 14 monoplane in shape for a flight from Floyd Bennett Airport here, to Paris. Motor trouble forced postponement and helpers were working under injunction to have the ship ready for a takeoff "at the earliest possible moment," July 9. Photo shows: Lieut, Thomas A. Description given with photo: "Non-Stop Los Angeles - New York Flight Inaugurated New York -- View of the crowd around the "Star of California" waiting for passengers -- most of them after it landed at LaGuardia Airport Feb. 15. Piloted by Howard Hughes, famed Around-The-World record holder and a TWA executive, the flight in-augurated non-stop schedule between Los Angeles and New York. The TWA Constellation made the trip in 8 hours and 38 minutes, as compared with the record of 7 hours, 27 minutes. Credit (ACME) 2/15/46."

The black and white view of a crowd of people awaiting the arrival Lockheed 14 aircraft at Floyd Bennett Airport in New York. Typed onto a piece of paper attached to the image: "Tumultuous welcome awaits world fliers here Floyd Bennett Airport, N.Y. -- Policemen lined up on the field here awaiting the arrival of Howard Hughes and his companions, New York bound from Minneapolis, on the last leg of their epochal Round-The-World flight. By noon, a crowd of 6,000 persons had gathered at the airport, and it was increasing by the moment. Credit line (ACME). 7/14/38."
