Description
The black and white view of the Lockheed 14 aircraft in New York, New York. Typed on a piece of paper attached to the image: "Readying Hughes' plane for Paris flight. Hughes's Lockheed 14 monoplane in shape for a flight from Floyd Bennett Airport here, to Paris. Motor trouble forced postponement and helpers were working under injunction to have the ship ready for a takeoff July 9 "at the earliest possible moment." Photo shows: General view of crowd watching plane being serviced outside hangar. Credit Line (ACME) 7/9/1938."

Committee members seated at the table (right) are: left to right: Senators J. Howard McGrath (D), Rhode Island: Claud Pepper (D), Florida: Homer Ferguson (R), Mich., chairman, and John J. Description
From the Nye County, Nevada Photograph Collection (PH-00221) -- Series IV. Pahrump, Nevada -- Subseries IV.A. Hughes Family. Barn in the background is said to have been constructed prior to 1900 from timber sawed in Saw Mill Canyon in the Spring Mountains. It contained a number of stalls and mangers in which stagecoach horses were quartered. The barn was torn down when Walt Williams moved to the Pahrump Ranch, and a shop was constructed on the site.
