Materials contain photographs of Las Vegas, Nevada from 1960 to 1979. The photographs primarily depict properties owned by Howard Hughes after he moved to Las Vegas in 1966, including the Desert Inn, the Silver Slipper, the Landmark Hotel, the Sands Hotel, and the Frontier Hotel. The photographs also include the Spring Mountain Ranch that Hughes purchased for his wife Jean Peters and aerial views of the Las Vegas Strip.

The subject files and photographs series of the Hughes Electronics Corporation Records date from 1935-2003. This series contains subject files on the company history, some of its major technological developments, and its purchase by General Motors. Photographs in this series document Hughes developed technologies in use by NATO forces, development of the Galileo probe, the H-1 Racer, and communication satellites. Also in this series are files and photographs of the NASA Pioneer 10/Jupiter encounter.
The corporate records for California Pictures Corporation (1919-1965) detail Hughes and Sturges' legal arrangement for the creation and eventual dissolution of their company. Also included are documents for the incorporation of California Pictures, as well as the procurement of screenplay and book rights for potential movie productions. Other materials detail the acquisition of titles under the California Pictures name for Hughes Tool Company in the 1950s, as well as correspondence detailing the 1946 dissolution of the corporation.

Oral history interview with Gertrude Naegle conducted by Jeff Bradshaw on March 31, 1976 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Naegle recalls moving to Las Vegas, Nevada after buying a gas-filling station. She also discusses the above ground atomic testing, The Old Fort, and visits by President John F. Kennedy and Howard Hughes.
