Scope and Contents

The Cock of the Air sub-series (1931-1932) includes newspaper clippings, publicity stills, production and direction records, financial records, and legal records pertaining to the film’s production and release on January 23, 1932.

Newspaper clippings in the sub-series depict advertising campaigns for The Cock of the Air, theatrical releases, and film reviews. Publicity stills consist of the principal cast, supporting cast, and director on set, as well as posed images of the principal cast. Production and direction records feature production logs, screenplays, production still albums, and direction stills depicting the principal cast on film sets. Lloyd, Harold, 1893-1971

Harold Lloyd was an influential film actor and producer known for his sight gags and extreme stunts in his silent comedy films between 1913 and 1928, as well as his sound films between 1929 and 1938 before his retirement. After retiring, director Preston Sturges convinced him to return to acting, appearing in the Howard Hughes-produced The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (1947).

The film was re-edited and re-released as Mad Wednesday in 1950.

Brent, Evelyn, 1899-1975

American film star Evelyn Brent was born on October 20 between 1895 and 1901 in Tampa, Florida. She moved to Brooklyn, New York as a teenager where she earned jobs modeling. While in school, Brent visited the World Film Studio in Fort Lee, New Jersey and was offered a job acting. She made her screen debut in A Gentleman from Mississippi (1914), and went on to star in films and television until 1960. She starred in Howard Hughes' adaptation of Rex Beach's novel The Mating Call in 1928.
