The black and white view of several unidentified men and mechanics standing near the Lockheed 14 aircraft that was then being refueled. At the time, Howard Hughes was then on his Around the World Flight with the Lockheed 14 where he visited Paris, Moscow, Fairbanks, and Alaska.

Ann E. Brewington (left) with Alice C. Maher, probably at a reception celebrating Brewington's 100th birthday, July 22, 1989. Brewington, a former instructor at the University of Chicago School of Business, was a sister-in-law of Nevada Governor Vail M. Pittman. Maher served as secretary to Pittman and other Nevada governors.

Transcribed from attached press release: "Howard Hughes, right, noted aircraft designer and industrialist is shown for the first time on the flight deck of the famed Hughes flying boat, which he designed and built. It is the largest airplane in the world. The plane is now nearing completion on Terminal Island, in Los Angeles-Long Bay Harbor, May 12, 1947." Los Angeles Harbor is now known as Long Beach Harbor, California.
