Description given with photo: "As Hughes Dropped "Blackmail" Charge - Washington, D.C., Howard Hughes, multi-millionaire air-plane builder, left, is shown leaning over the council table as he agreed to call of his "Blackmail" feud with Senator Owen Brewster at the end of today's heated session of the Senate Subcommittee's hearing of Hughes' wartime aircraft contracts. Owen Brewster attempted to "blackmail" him. Sitting next to Sen. Ferguson is committee member Sen. John J. Williams (R-Dela.), and standing directly behind Sen. Williams is Sen. Description
The black and white view of police men awaiting the arrival of the Lockheed 14 aircraft at Floyd Bennett Airport in New York. Typed onto a piece of paper attached onto the image: "Police in readiness for arrival of Hughes' plane, Floyd Bennett Airport, N.Y. -- Police lined up in front of a plane at Floyd Bennett Airport, as last-minute preparations were made for the arrival of Howard Hughes and his companions, who were winging over North Central America on the last leg of their epochal Round-The-World flight. By noon a crowd of 6,000 persons had assembled and countless others choked all roads leading to the field as the fliers drew nearer to their goal. Credit Line (ACME) 7/14/38."

Description
From the David Rea Collection of Howard Hughes Publicity Photographs (PH-00400). This collection is comprised of publicity photographs of Howard Hughes and his aircrafts, from approximately the 1940s to the 1950s, that were compiled by David Rea, former pilot for Hughes Aircraft Company. This collection also includes clippings and technical drawings of Hughes aircrafts. Note: Newspaper clippings were not digitized, but are available in the reading room. All digital objects from this collection are part of a photographic album.
