Hughes's Lockheed 14 monoplane in shape for a flight from Floyd Bennett Airport here, to Paris. Motor trouble forced postponement and helpers were working under injunction to have the ship ready for a takeoff July 9 "at the earliest possible moment." Knowland (R. Calif.), left to right. Committee chairman Brewster told reporters Hughes discovered certain war contracts of his were under investigation and "asked to appear to discuss them informally with the committee." Three wealthy plane manufacturer said he has already put $7,000,000 of his own money into the still unflown 200-ton flying boat which is currently being investigated by a senate subcommittee, and would put in much more before construction is completed.
