Abstract

Oral history interview with Floyd Jenne conducted by Gordon Brusso on April 04, 1976 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Mr. Jenne discusses living and working in McGill, Nevada in the 1920’s and 1930’s. He offers insight into the school system in McGill, as well. He also speaks about working in Boulder City, Nevada as a police officer with the Bureau of Reclamation.

In this interview, Urioste discusses her early life in Burbank, California and her career in dancing. She talks about the various dancing styles that she learned and her introduction to tap dancing. Urioste remembers touring around the world and performing at different hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In her interview Harney discusses her and her husband's move to the historic John S. Park Neighborhood in 1975, about ten years after moving to Las Vegas from Ohio. Kathleen also discusses her career as a high school teacher and teaching English and journalism.

Oral history interview with Greta Peay conducted by Kali Woods on November 11, 2015 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. Peay, a school administrator with the Clark County School District (CCSD) discusses Las Vegas education experiences in Nevada that are relevant to racial inequities across the country. Peay also comments on studies that show Nevada schools at the bottom of national rankings when comparing Black graduation rates, the school-to-prison pipeline, and low enrollment in college-prep courses for Black high-school students.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Randy Daybell conducted by Patricia van Betten on April 01, 2010 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. Daybell opens his interview by describing his birth and early upbringing in Heber City, Utah. He then discusses his education, his missionary work with the Mormon church, and his move to Washington, D.C. to work as director of the Mormon church's educational outreach program. He points out that he lived in Blue Diamond Village between the ages of three and six, and recounts memories from that early period in his life. Some of those memories include living in a trailer near the gypsum board plant, playing in the desert and the community pool, and being temporarily trapped by a large bull while playing with a friend. Lastly, he comments on his memories of his aunt and uncle, Barb and Verl Conover, and the many changes to the Village since he lived there as a child.
