Abstract

Oral history interview with Henry Jimenez conducted by Andres Moses on May 23, 2006 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. In this interview Henry Jimenez discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in July of 1998, attending middle school and high school in Las Vegas, and attending University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also discusses being in many UNLV student organizations like student government and the Latino fraternity. He then discusses taking over the chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee for the UNLV student government.

In this interview, Long reflects upon his experience as an administrator with Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD). He discusses how he became an administrator, and how his training influenced his approach to school administration. He describes his regular responsibilities and challenges, and provides his opinion on topics such as No Child Left Behind, standardized testing, and central office administration.

Oral history interview with Winnie Prince conducted by Irene Rostine on May 18, 1995 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Prince opens her interview by discussing her history in Las Vegas, Nevada, which began when she moved to the city in 1942. Prince describes her husband's experiences living in a Las Vegas tent city, and her life in St. George, Utah prior to her move to Las Vegas. She also talks about her brief employment at the Basic Magnesium plant just before the end of World War II. Prince discusses her job responsibilities at the plant, and the importance of accuracy in her job as a shell casting inspector. Lastly, she describes her husband's job as a guard at the Basic Magnesium plant and the ways rationing affected daily life, including commuting to work and feeding her family.

Oral history interview with Paulette Nelson conducted by Claytee White on March 2, 2009 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. Nelson discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1981 and working at the Nevada Test Site for two years. Nelson then talks about being offered a position in the cataloging department at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Libraries. Lastly, she talks about being supervisor of the Architecture Studies Library for nine years until her retirement in 2009.

He also discusses how the casino industry evolved to allow management and labor to work for the interests of both.

Oral history interview with Norman Forsythe conducted by Bill Cunningham on March 04, 1978 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Forsythe discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada and joining the City of Las Vegas and Clark County Fire Departments. He also goes into detail about fighting the fire at the El Rancho Vegas in 1960 and his responsibilities as a battalion chief. The interview concludes with Forsythe talking briefly about his family’s recreational activities and his experience as a baseball coach.

Oral history interview with Andrea Gardea conducted by Barbara Tabach on June 26, 2019 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. Gardea starts talking about her early life, family, and family history. She explains why she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2002 and why she chose to attend University of Nevada, Las Vegas. After, Gardea describes what happened before and during the Route 91 Harvest festival, what she experienced during the shooting, and her journey in escaping the scene. She talks about the aftermath of the shooting, the trauma and PTSD experienced, and her healing process. Gardea also talks about the making of Engelland’s Vegas Born Heroes Foundation in 2018, what they do, and what they represent. Lastly, she talks about her opinions on gun control and her viewpoint on making peace.

Frances Faye oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Frances Faye on December 30, 1974 with an unknown interviewer for the UNLV University Libraries Oral History Collection.

In this interview, Frances Faye shares memories of performing as a cabaret singer in the 1930s. She talks about her entertaining career at several clubs in New York and various other locations including the Yacht Club, the Hickory House, Club Calet, and other venues. Faye recalls songs she wrote and performances across the United States including those in Chicago, Illinois; Boston, Massachusetts; Las Vegas, Nevada; and various locations within California. Faye reminisces with the interviewer about people they know in show business and briefly recounts a hip injury she sustained at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, causing her to stop performing for over nine years.
